Before I dive in, I want to address the fact I haven't posted for a few weeks now. I haven't abandoned my desire for 50 days of Fashion, yet I do want to give it to you right! I WILL be restarting it but much better, so keep an eye out for that!
(Now, let's dive in but I'll give you a little history about this post!)
Several
months ago I went to my cousin in search of inspiration, I needed to talk to
someone I loved and trusted because I knew I couldn't talk to many people. I
needed someone that wouldn't lecture me but would point me in the right
direction. I went to my cousin Boss. I told him about my love for the fashion
industry and my fear of high debt in art schools. Of all people, I didn't know
what he’d tell me in this conversation but I felt like my grandpa put us in
that moment. I was on the verge of tears because of how passionate I am about
my future career and how distant it felt in that moment. He looked back at me and
said, “I have the perfect person for you!” Boss started to tell me about this
woman who started a business by herself. No school, no employees, ALL BY
HERSELF! He connected me with the owner of Flawless Gemstone Apparel, Juanetta
Pulliam.
Mrs. Pulliam told me the raw version of running a business and her personal experience. She let me know that if I was in it for the money, to run now because it takes time and effort to build a successful business. She has always followed her own path and thought outside of the box. For instance, Juanetta is running her business while working full time! Most people would quit their full time job to start their business, but Juanetta's way of thinking has kept her and her business out of debt!
She also let me know that in order to make it far, I need to be prepared for everything, to stay focused, humble, and to trust myself. She told me to not let other people distract me from my vision and to always create my own path. But most of all, she told me that it was worth it.
