N.Y.E

5, 4, 3, 2, 1….. HAPPY SEQUINS!! Oops, I meant HAPPY NEW YEAR’S!!

It goes without saying that New Year’s truly isn’t New Year’s without somebody in sequins!
Now if you want to celebrate New Year’s sans sequins I’ve gathered a list of New Year’s fashion tips to celebrate in style! Don’t worry Sequins Lovers (aka me) there are some tips to style your fit too! After you've put that perfect NYE outfit together, check out  this collab video of MUA Mariah Thomas and myself! She beat my face, in the best way possible and I gave some styling tips! Make sure to subscribe to her YouTube channel here!

Leather!
A hot staple for the New Year is leather! Leather is universally loved and known to be one of the sexiest materials! Mariah’s leather skirt was paired with a sheer blouse. This mixture of fabrics is chic and sexy! Both pieces were found at F21!

Velvet!
Velvet has to be one of my new faves this year. Something about is says “Don’t mind me, I’ll be just stand here and gaze out the window while I silently slay this room.” Does anybody else get that vibe? Rebdolls has had a few killers this winter as well as Z by Zevarra. Since New Year’s is literally days away ordering online may not be ideal, I’d check out F21 for their velvety touch!

You can find this at www.Rebdolls.com

Mesh/Sheer

Ooh LA, LA I see your TATA’s haha just kidding! But in all seriousness, you can tastefully pair mesh or sheer with just about anything and it’s going to command attention. Mind you, I did say tastefully. How can you make such fabric tasteful? Layers! Placing a sheer or mesh top over a dress or tank top is a go to. But to make it more playful, you can wear a high waisted skirt and well-fitting bra and you’ll be well on your way to SHUTTING $#!% DOWN!

All Black Errythang!

(I’m having way too much fun writing this post)
Black is the new black. I know this is geared towards women but can you just imagine a man in an all-black well-tailored suit? OH MY GAWD!! Same goes for us ladies in an LBD. A simple black ensemble paired with life changing shoes and accessories is Capmbell’s Mmm Mmm Good! That is all.

You're welcome.

SEQUINS
I looked up the definition of New Year’s Eve and there was a picture of Sequins. Eat your heart out sequins lovers; it’s time to bring out every shiny thing you own. This day only comes once per year!

Now that you have your outfit down, it’s time to put your face on! Watch MUA Mariah Thomas do my NewYear’s Eve Makeup and styling tips by me!

Don’t forget to LikeShare and Comment on this post and the video! HAPPY NEW YEAR’S!

These Boots are made for Struttin'!

Do you know why I love this time of the year? Well, I can tell you one thing for sure, it’s not because of the snow. But I love this time of the year because of….. Boots! I <3 boots! Leather boots, suede boots, knee high, thigh high, booties, and everything in between. Boots and I have a love that will never die. But like most relationships, we have our ups and downs. Ups, when life is good and I wear a pair every day of my fall/winter life and downs, when I cannot get that cute pair that I want to add to my collection to zip up. We've all been there. So to make sure the relationship between boots and I last forever, I make sure to get wide calf boots (the wider the calf, the wider the love). Here is a list of places that have wider calf boots to keep our love strong.

Rompers, in Winter?

A few weeks ago I won two tickets to the Anchorage Museum’s “Lights Out” event! One, I was excited because I don’t ever win anything and two, because I haven’t been to the museum since grade school! The first thing I did was go to the bubble pad! On this pad you pull the cord and it creates a huge bubble! I’m an adult and I am still fascinated with bubbles! On top of that, they had a Lego competition, arts and crafts AND DRINKS! With that being said, I’m going back EVERY YEAR! Here are some pics from the night and outfit details below!

This is made out of LEGO'S!

Romper: Torrid
Belt: Torrid
Wedges: Target (On Clearance for around $8! Win!)
Pantyhose (that word makes me giggle): Walmart (because they tear no matter where you get them!)

Small Business Saturday

One of my biggest goals in life is to become a successful business owner. This has been a goal of mine since a young age. I would day dream about the wallpaper that would be in my office, the clothes and accessories I'd sell and most of all the relationships that I'd build with my customers. Those day dreams have stuck with me since then and it's what keeps me up at night. There are others out there that have had similar dreams and they have followed them. Those people are our neighbors, friends or commonly referred to as small business owners. In more recent years, small businesses have been on the rise! With an initiative to bring more buyers to local stores Small Business Saturday was established.  We get the opportunity to buy unique thoughtful gifts, support our neighbors and we don’t have to worry about being trampled by the guy heading to get the new 3D TV. Struttin' for Breast Cancer Awareness

Just a few weeks ago, I celebrated my 23rd birthday and each year I take a few minutes to reflect on the year that has passed. Although this year has been jam packed with highlights; 3 vacations, first modeling gig and the Beyoncé concert, just to name a few, I still felt like I was missing something. It took me a while to really figure out what that something was but now that I know and I’m taking action.

Earlier this year I made an “Inspiration Board” of all the aspects in life that I would like to focus on and one major portion of the board was blessing others. I obviously don’t have Oprah money to grant everyone with new homes or vacations but I do have my very own gifts to share. One in particular is The 907 Strut. I consider The 907 Strut a gift because my original focus was to “Bring Fashion to Alaska” and overtime I have veered off track. Lagging on updates and not reaching out to others in the industry as I did in the beginning. Another gift of mines is my creativity and thoughtfulness. You know, utilizing my Pinterest-Like skills to create something amazing!  So how can I share my gifts and benefit those in need? I came up with a project that makes sense to be unveiled now. I have created Bedazzled Bras to benefit Breast Cancer Awareness.

Breast Cancer resonates with me personally because my mother is a survivor and my grandmother is a breast cancer victim. In honor of my late grandmother, thriving mother and many other mothers, grandmothers, sisters, aunts and so on, Portions of the proceeds will benefit American Cancer Society! With the purchase of a bra you a scoring a handmade piece of my heart and you a benefiting a great cause! For more information on how to place an order for a custom bra email myself at the907strut@gmail.com.

For more information about placing an order or CUSTOM HALLOWEEN BRAS, click the FAQ above.

If you would like to be featured or would like to contact me, please email me at the907strut@gmail.com
Thank you for all of your continued support!

Yoncé & Sharita UNITE!

I have been raving for months about the On The Run Tour, well the day has come and gone and it was..... Phenomenal!! It was the best concert I have ever been to (sorry RiRi)! Everything you see Beyoncé do on T.V from her moves to her voice IS REAL. She owned every moment on that stage! She performes with the right amount of diva and professionalism. There were parts of the show that I forgot I was at a concert and felt like I was a part of a women's activists convention, I felt pretty damn empowered. I was in complete awe!! Oh, and Jay Z was great too!

With all the rumors surrounding their "soon to be split", they seemed like divorce papers were far from their agenda. The Carter's started the show with "03 Bonnie and Clyde" and ended with a medley of "Forever Young" and "Halo" while they shared intimate pics of Baby Cater, Blue. Of course they did every song they had together in between plus their hits individually, which came close to 50 songs in just about 3 hours or so on stage... they killed it!! The only question I have for her is "How do you do all that in them heels?" TWO SNAPS FOR YONCÉ!!!

Ok now let's get to my outfit! Since May, when I got my ticket, I stressed day in and out about what I'd wear. I wanted to go in a sequin body suit, leather thigh high boots and a weave down to my booty. I felt like I needed to be prepared in case Yoncé needed some help on stage. Well she didn't need me on stage (this time) but I still Werked It in my black cutout dress from Grisel at www.custom-plus.com. Steve Madden Heels, necklace from Payless and clutch from Aldo! Of course this was all put together at the last minute, but what else would you expect from me?

Please comment and share!
Thanks for reading!

Get To Know the Designer: Leontine Abdullah and Her Empire

From straight to curvy, classic to club wear, Leontine Abdullah can create it all! A few weeks ago I got the pleasure of chatting with the celebrity designer about the past, present and future of Leontine’s empire and she shared some tips for budding entrepreneurs!

I first met Leontine through Alaska FashionWeek’s CEO, Dominick Liriano. She and Dominick hosted Anchorage’s modeling workshop where she taught aspiring models (like I) how to STRUT down the catwalk. There, she granted me the opportunity of walking for her in Alaska Fashion Week, which will be my first official modeling job! For someone to be so successful, she remains humble and true to her passion and just being in her presence inspires me to move forward! Although she taught me the ins and outs of walking down a catwalk, I was still eager to learn how she created her empire. So her last visit to Anchorage, we took some time to catch up and discuss Leontine's Empire.

The Making Of A Celebrity Designer

It all began when Leontine’s mother, a seamstress, would work on her craft through the night. Leontine would go to sleep to the sound of a sewing machine with thoughts of one day doing something similar. She knew that she wanted to be in the fashion industry, but not as a seamstress. She knew she was going to be a designer. Her mother taught her the basics of sewing; pattern making, adding elastic to a skirt or creating tutus for herself and her friends. And from there, Leontine grew into her own.

Though she did not become a designer immediately, she remained in the industry. From modeling for Vogue Modeling Agency to acting in McDonald's or 7-UP commercials, young Leontine was taking steps to become the celebrity designer she is today!

Q&A

Q: As a woman with multiple degrees, do you find it necessary to go to school for fashion design/marketing to be successful in this industry?

A: No, but it depends on what you're seeking. I went to school after beginning my career in fashion design. Most of what I know was self taught, but I was eager to know the technical terms of what I was doing. There are homeless people that are now the Tyler Perry's and Oprah Winfrey's. If you already know what you're doing, you don't need a piece of paper to validate that.

For people that don't know how to sew and need to learn technique, go to fashion school. They do teach you the basics and build off of that. But if you are seeking one on one learning, find a mentor in addition to fashion school. I did learn a lot from my mentors; Pricilla Ratcliff who is also a celebrity designer and Debra Francis,VP of NAACP Altadena Branch.

If you are already in the industry and it's your career, going to school will be for self validation. I do plan on going back and hopefully getting my master's degree. Not at the moment but in the future. There is always room to grow and so much you can learn, you have to be willing to evolve with the industry.

Q: How did you meet your mentors?
Pricilla Ratcliff was my professor in one of my college courses back in 2005. She took a liking to me, she liked my drive and I'd listen and study what she was teaching. She took me to events, we went out of town, travelled to Paris. She taught me how to be a designer and the importance of networking.

Debra Francis and I met at an event and we have grown since then. She believes in me and my vision that she is investing in me! She is going to be a producer on my upcoming REALITY TV SHOW that will begin shooting this summer!

Debra Francis, Leontine Abdullah and myself at Leontine's fashion show in March at Rooftop 3100 in     Los Angeles, CA!

Future of Leontine's Brand

She just finished Facet Fashion Week in L.A and now she is preparing for Alaska Fashion Week here in Anchorage! This summer she begins shooting for her Reality TV Show and laying the foundation for her modeling agency!

She also keeps herself busy and gives back by teaching individuals how to sew and create patterns at Mood Fabrics in L.A, modeling workshops from Paris to Anchorage and constantly working on her brand. This fall she will return to Paris and debut Leon By Leontine Abdullah, her men's line inspired by her father.  And in October, her collection will be in Style Fashion Week, which is L.A's largest fashion week!

To add to her monumental to-do list, she is the costume designer for actor Soloman Frazier in his upcoming film, Unspeakable Indiscretions, directed and produced by Eric B Ramsey. She will also be featured in the film walking down the red carpet and giving an interview! Unspeakable Indiscretions will premier later this year at the Arclight Theaters in Hollywood!

Actor, Amin Joseph from the Expendables, in Leon By Leontine Abdullah!

I am so honored that I have had the opportunity to get to know Leontine Abdullah in such a way! Starting with the Modeling Workshop months ago, who would have know I would be able to learn from her in so many ways. I was able to attend her fashion show in L.A, meet her mentor Debra Francis and be introduced to her fiance the owner of Backstage Access Magazine, her AMAZING assistant William and many of her other colleagues in the industry! She is a self made Mogul with so many accomplishments under her belt and she's just getting started! I cannot wait to see what the future holds the Empire of Leontine Abdullah.
