Splurge VS. Steal - Plus Size Fashion Finds

Hello and happy busiest shopping weekend of the year!

Before you whip out your credit card and buy the best gifts and maybe a few things for yourself, keep in mind there may be a less expensive option out there. Maybe you're a millionaire and "money ain't a thang" but for us savvy shoppers, I've found found great steals for you!

I created this list by doing my daily online "window shopping", where I browse through my favorite plus size stores, fill my shopping bag with clothes that I can't afford, then I close out of that website and then go to the next. What I noticed was that all stores were filling up their inventory with holiday sequins, dresses, jumpsuits and whatnot and some stores had similar items. Well, even though the items were similar, the price tags were drastically different!

Yes, I'm a self-proclaimed "savvy shopper" but in all actuality, I'm cheap! So finding the inexpensive option to the expensive items I have been lushing over blew my entire mind! I had a fashion duty to report these findings to you so you can save some money too! Check out the items below in The 907 Strut's edition of: Splurge VS. Steal!

Keep in mind, the prices shown are the original prices that does not reflect any deals the stores have going on!

Monif C. and Charlotte Russe

Eloquii and Charlotte Russe

Asos and Charlotte Russe

Silver Jeans and Maurice's

I hope this list gives you an idea of what items to buy and where to go to save the most money. Don't get me wrong, some items I do "splurge" on (like the Eloquii gold sequin wrap dress) but when I want my money to stretch, I go for the steals! Let me know if you want to see more blog posts like this.

As always, thanks for reading!

Fall Fashion

This dress gives me all types of “Hold up! They don’t love you like I love you”/”Pocketful of Sunshine” vibes! I scored this dress from Eloquii a few months ago at the beginning of spring. I had been eyeing it for a while and decided it belonged in my closet because I couldn’t get the image out of my head. That was such a great decision because I am in LOVE with this look! I know I bought it in spring, but the color, ruffles and shape of the dress works perfectly with fall’s natural tones.

When building your fall wardrobe or just transitioning what you already have in your closet, keep natural earth tones in mind. Marigold (like this dress), browns, deep reds and dark greens are my go-to colors for this season.

Scarves, boots, jackets and booties are also an essential for me when it comes to fall! I got these cute booties from Target (on sale of course) a few months ago. The color and fringe are perfect for fall and the larger heel make them easy to walk in. The exact pair that I’m wearing is sold out but check out Torrid for a similar pair of fringed booties.

I like to keep my day to day makeup as natural as possible but if I were going on date-night with my boo or to get some apps and drinks with my girls, I would’ve gone with a deep red lip! Check out this makeup tutorial from Riah’s Beauty for a cute fall look!

So this is how I do fall fashion. Comment your fall fashion go-tos below!

Plus Size Stores

Before I started The 907 Strut, I was like most other plus size women and didn’t know where to go to find cute clothes. Luckily Forever 21 opened in Anchorage and I worked at Torrid and got a bangin’ discount – but other than those two stores, I didn’t know where to go. It wasn’t until I searched #PlusSizeFashion on Instagram in 2013 when my eyes were opened to the many stores that offered plus size clothing. Until that point, I had no idea that there were so many options! Since then, I have been an avid online shopper and found so much love in helping others find something to wear.

When I started The 907 Strut later that year, one thing I wanted to use this platform for was to show other plus size women that we have options! That’s when I created Strut-Worthy Stores.

Strut-Worthy Stores, a tab at the top of the screen, has a list of my favorite in-town and online stores that offer plus size clothing. To take the list of stores one step forward, I also listed the affordability with $50 being the “affordability gauge”, as well as listed the types of clothing each store sells (casual, work wear, swim suits, etc.).

So if you’re looking for something to wear, Strut-Worthy Stores is the place to go!

Do you need some outfit inspiration? I got you! Follow @the907strut on Instagram for outfit inspiration boards that I create. I don’t mean to toot my own horn when it comes to styling but, TOOT TOOT! *insert crying laughing emoji*

When it comes to fashion, I’m your girl. Let me know if you have an upcoming event or you just want to revamp your closet – I got you!

Untamed!

This is the first time in my nearly 25 years of life that I have been secure with my hair texture!

It's very common now of days to see women and men rocking their natural tresses, which is huge because growing up all I seen were relaxed hair styles. Now that I am a groooown woman (in my Yonce’ voice) I have decided to take control of my hair by letting it do what it was intended to do – grow without chemicals! This is just the beginning of my natural hair journey, but I’m excited to see how it will look in a year from now!

Just thinking about my hair experience  and being taught that relaxed is the only way to go, had me reflect more on my natural self. There are many things in my life that I need to refocus on. My hair is just the beginning of my journey to taking further steps to live a life UNTAMED!

Now to the outfit deets! My outfit was inspired by Makeup Shayla’s sparkly smoky eye tutorial on YouTube. Now that I’m a momma, I barely go out so I used my three day weekend to dress up, rock my hurr and try the makeup tutorial out. Of course it’s not makeup artist level (yet), I still slayed!

Pink Blush Review and $50 Gift Card Giveaway!

Have you ever run across a store or website and wonder how life has gone on this far without them? Well if you're anything like me, every time you run across a website like Pink Blush that feeling is all too real!

A few weeks ago the people at Pink Blush contacted me about sponsoring a blog post to feature their clothing and I was all too excited! Pink Blush is a trendy online boutique that sells plus, straight AND maternity clothes! Seriously, how did I get this far without them?

I picked out the blue plaid button up top because its stylish, casual and I can rock it in every season! I chose to pair the top with blue jeans and boots because it's still chilly out but you could also pair it with a waisted belt with a skirt or leggings.

On top of their great styles, Pink Blush wanted team up with The 907 Strut and give one of my readers a chance to win a $50 gift card to Pink Blush! Check out below for the ways to enter!
Or if you're already connected to us on Facebook and Instagram

2) Comment on this post what your favorite Pink Blush look is!

It's that easy! The contest is open until March 31 and the winner will be announced on April 1!

10 Ways to Save on Clothes!

Everyone that knows me knows that I love to shop! If you're reading this blog then I'm pretty sure you also know that I love to shop! And even though shopping is my "thing" I had to make some changes for my new life as a mommy and shopping is one of them.

There's no way that I could quit shopping "cold turkey" so I've figured our some ways to save. Read on to see my top  ways to save on clothes!

1)  Rewards Cards.

This is probably my most used method of saving. My fiance' jokes that I have a rewards card for everything, which I do! I've racked up enough points at my favorite places and have earned coupons, money off of my purchases and even cash back!

2) Stay Connected  by Email

If you have a favorite store, I'd recommend signing up for their emails. Yes, there's that drawback of them possibly flooding your inbox (you should be able to adjust your email preferences) BUT  you will be the first to know when your favorite items go on sale!

3) Shop Out of Season

"That dress is soooo last year!" If someone ever says that to you, first, punch them in the throat. You don't need those type of people in your life. Then, explain how you paid a fraction of the original price of your dress that is from last season! I literally stalk stores waiting for things like boots to go on sale in the spring and summer outfits to go on sale in fall. Not only can you wear it next year, but you can wear it ALL YEAR. It's all about how you style it!

4) Go for Clearance

This one goes hand in hand with #3 and it also goes hand in hand with my budget. I am cheap and a real person with real bills. Clearance is my go to before I shop the full price items. Plus, when I get compliments I say "Thank you. I only paid $4 for it!" and then walk away like a boss!

5) Buy Quality Items

Ok, this one I am still working on, I have a hard time spending a lot on anything, let alone spend a lot when a cheap option is available. But remember, you get what you pay for. I found myself buying jeans over and over because they were CHEAP; cheap price and cheap quality. I don't know about you but my thighs rub when I walk, so my jeans would wear down and rip (I know that I'm not alone). The solution? Buy better quality jeans. You may spend more up front, but you definitely save more in the long run.

6) Take Care of Your Clothes

I've learned this the hard way. If the tags on your clothes says to hang dry, listen, they know what they're talking about! I know that dry cleaning can be pricey but there are ways to dry clean at home. Check out this article on how to dry clean at home that I found. The more you take care of your clothes, the less you have to spend on buying new clothes.

7) Repurpose Old Clothes

Sometimes you have to change how you look at the clothes you already own. Maybe that scarf hanging out in the back of your closet can be draped and belted to look more like a vest. And checkout Pinterest for more ways to repurpose clothes. Some of these ways, you won't even need to whip out a sewing machine!

8) Shop Thrift Items

"I'm gonna pop some tags only got $20 in my pockets!" Macklemore knew what he was talking about! My tip when you go to a thrift store is to look in places you wouldn't normally look. I say that because when you're shopping a thrift store, you're automatically shopping different brands and styles. That means different sizing AND you can find name brand clothes for less than what you spent on your lunch.

9) Sell What You Don't Wear

You sell your clothes and then guess what. YOU HAVE MORE MONEY FOR CLOTHES!WINNING! There are consignment stores, Plato's Closet here in Anchorage now accepts plus size clothes, apps like Vinted and there are Facebook groups that you can buy and sell clothes on. I have used all of these methods and my personal fave is Plato's Closet. They go through your clothes, pick what they want and pay you. Wham, bam, thank you ma'am!

10) Sign Up for Rental Services

I lalala loved my subscription to Gwynnie Bee! I liked the fact of getting something new and fresh in my wardrobe and then sending it back and then getting something fresher! There are other options like Rent the Runway and Dia and Co!

Welcome Back!

Well hellloooooo, sunshine! I hope you missed me half as much as I missed you! These past few months without The 907 Strut have been quite evolving, to say the least. The time away has allowed me to focus on my personal life and also think of new ways to expand The 907 Strut!

But before we move forward, let’s go back in time. We’ll rewind to my last post “I am the Fiesta” on Cinco de Mayo of 2015. Here I am living life in my sequin jumpsuit (which I love sooooo much!) and unbeknownst to me, I was sharing that jumpsuit with a peanut sized person in my tummy! Fast forward to October 30, 2015, my tinky butt baby, Navarra Vanee’ was born!

The past few months, I have been adjusting to mommyhood and planning on how I am going to take over the world with my new sidekick (haha she was literally kicking my sides for a few months) and so far the experience has been extraordinary! I have a lot of projects in the making and I cannot wait to unveil them all to you!

Thank you for sticking with me even in my time away from The 907 Strut, I'll make sure the future will be worth the wait!

XOXOXO
